Signs of Mice

Droppings

Fresh droppings are dark and moist in comparison to dry and grey old droppings. Droppings will be found near nesting and feeding areas and are a good area to search to confirm there is an infestation.

Gnaw Marks

Gnaw marks will be found on the house structure, food packaging, plastic or furniture. Light coloured gnaw marks indicate they are there more recently than darker marks. Larger gnaw marks are indicative of rats.

Urine Odors

Mice urine has a pungent ammonia-like smell that can be hard to remove even after an extermination. Your pets may notice the smell before you do, so if you notice your cat or dog suddenly pawing or displaying an interest in a certain area, make sure to examine the area carefully.

Runways

Mouse runways can be found by examining suspected areas of mouse activity with a flashlight and searching for tracks such as footprints, droppings, urine stains etc. To confirm a mouse runway exists, sprinkle some baby powder around the area and monitor it for footprints.

Nests

Mice gather soft material such as paper, string etc. to make their nest. Nests are almost always indoors, especially in garages, kitchens and pantries. They are usually hidden away in some narrow area such as under floorboards or under fridges or near any gas-powered household appliance.

Scampering Noises

If you hear scampering and scratching sounds in the walls of your home at night or upstairs when it’s quiet during the day, it’s possible a mouse is out looking for food.

Spotting a mouse

Seeing a mouse dead or alive is a potential sign of an infestation, particularly seeing a live mouse during the daytime.
